Port Towns

Cruises help the local economies in many ways, but it’s not all good. Passengers aboard cruises generally only spend up to $100 off of the boat and end up leaving their trash behind. Cruise companies also invest in port towns making it so that if ports want to raise their wages or charge more, they can threaten to boycott the ports. Investing in the ports also means that companies are getting part of the profit. Cruise lines also are invested in activities on shore and employ a pay-to-play model in which vendors can pay to be recommended which creates a loss for everyone else and may not secure you with the most authentic experience. Among all of this there is also the added pollution in port towns which is causing many problems including respiratory illnesses.
